Karnam Malleswari, an Indian weightlifter, was born on 1st June 1975. She is the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in Weightlifting.

- Earned silver in 1992, Asian Championships, Thailand
- At the World Championship of 1994 in Turkey, she won 2 Gold and 1 Bronze medal.
- Karnam was honored with the Arjuna award in 1994 for her dominant performance in weightlifting and encouraging spirit.
- In 1995, Asian Championships, Korea, she won 3 Gold in 54 kg event.
- In 1995, she received the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award,' India’s highest sporting honor.
- In 1998, Asian Games held in Bangkok, she won the silver medal in the 63 kg division.
- In 1999, she received the civilian Padma Shri award.
- She earned a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympics, becoming the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal.
- Karnam is fondly called the ‘Iron Girl of Andhra Pradesh' to whom India has proud.
