Born on 3rd October 1965, Jan-Ove Waldner is a Swedish former table tennis player, regarded as one of the greatest table tennis players of all time.
He won silver medals in the World Championship Team events of 1983 held at Tokyo, 1985 at Goteborg, 1987 at New Delhi, 1991 at Chiba and in 1995 at Tianjin
He secured the 1st place in Men’s Singles at the InternationalChampionshipProTour, held in the USA in the year 1990, Sweden in 1983, Poland in 1985, and Germany in 1986
Jan received the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal in 1992.
At the Olympic Games of 1992 which were held in Barcelona, he won the Gold medal in Singles.
Jan became the European Champion, 1996 in Men’s Singles in Bratislava.
In 1997, he won his second World Singles title in Manchester.
He earned a silver medal in the singles event of Sydney Summer Olympics in 2000
Waldner is one of the five male Table tennis players who have achieved a Career Grand Slam. He has won an Olympic gold medal in 1992, World Cup Singles event in 1990 and World Championships in the singles event in 1989 and 1997.
