The starting line shall be indicated by two red flags or two red buoys or a combination of both. Competitors shall be at the starting point at the time defined in the Competition Programme. The race shall start without reference to any absentees.
When a canoe or kayak is overtaking another canoe or kayak, it is the duty of the overtaking vesselto keep clear and maintain a distance of other competitors at all times. When a canoe or kayak is racing in a group of competitors it is the duty of all the competitors in the group to avoid collision with other competitors at all times.
Every boat must bring adequate buoyancy, either at the time of construction of the boat or fixed afterward, to keep the boat at the floating level when filled with water. The scrutinizers may float test the boat if buoyancy is not apparent after a visual inspection.
The finishing line is said to be crossed/reached when the bow of the canoe or kayak along with the competitor/s in it has passed through the line between the flags. In case two or more boats reach the finishing line at the same time, they get the same classification.
Following are the points which when occurred amounts to disqualifications and penalties:-
Competitors have the power to plead to the ICF, through their National Federations, against a decision of the Competition Committee, within 30 days from the date when the race was held.
