Sometimes referred as Nya Ullevi, and built with the purpose to host the 1958 FIFA World Cup, the Ullevi stadium is located in Gothenburg, Sweden. However, since then, it has hosted various other sports events as well as the music programs and concerts. Since its inception in 1958, it has hosted the World Allround Speed Skating Championships six times. Ullevi also hosted the 1995 World Championships Athletics, 2006 European Championships, some matches of UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and UEFA Euro. It also annually hosted the Gothia Cup, which is known for the largest number of participants in the world. Various renowned football clubs such as GAIS, IFK Goteborg, Orgryte IS, and BK Hacken have used the stadium as their home ground at different times.

Trivia

Since 2007, Ullevi has become one of the largest solar power plants in Sweden. Its solar system generates ample of light to fulfill the lighting needs of the stadium.

Significance

On 3rd June 1959, it recorded the crowd attendance of 52,194 when IFK Goteborg played against Orgryte IS.
Sampdoria of Italy achieved glorious victory over Anderlecht of Belgium in the 1990 European Cup Winners' Cup Final.
Michael Jackson came to Ullevi Stadium on 16th August 1997, attracting a crowd of about 50,000 people.
As part of "Twenty Four Seven Tour", Tina Turner made her appearance at Ullevi Stadium on 5th August 2000
On 19th May, Spain’s Valencia defeated France’s Marseille in a spectacular manner at the UEFA Cup Final in the year 2004.
The "Sell-out concert" by Elton John was hosted here in 1998.
In 1958, Ullevi stadium was opened for FIFA World Cup, proving to be the great honour for Sweden.
