Oakland Coliseum, formerly known as RingCentral Coliseum and O.co Coliseum, is a historic multipurpose sports and entertainment venue in Oakland, California, United States. The stadium has hosted Baseball, American Football, Soccer, Cricket, concerts and other major events.
The Coliseum was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), with Edward C. Bassett as partner-in-charge and Myron Goldsmith as senior designer. Construction by the Guy F. Atkinson Company began in 1962 and was completed in 1965. The venue officially opened in 1966.
The stadium became the longtime home of the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). The Athletics began playing at the Coliseum in 1968, while the Raiders played their first games there in 1966.
A major renovation of the Coliseum took place in 1996, adding more than 10,000 upper-deck seats and substantially changing the stadium's appearance and configuration. The Athletics played their final game at the Coliseum on September 26, 2024, ending their long association with Oakland. The Raiders had previously relocated to Las Vegas. The venue subsequently continued to host other sporting and entertainment activities, including Oakland Roots SC.
The Coliseum complex covers approximately 112 acres. The stadium and surrounding parking areas occupy an approximately 103-acre Stadium Parcel, while the overall complex also includes the adjacent arena parcel. The City of Oakland and Alameda County each hold a 50% undivided interest in the property.
The site is now subject to an ongoing ownership and redevelopment process. Oakland's Coliseum Area Specific Plan envisions a mixed-use district that could include housing, retail, commercial, sports and entertainment uses. The proposed redevelopment remains subject to further planning, financing, zoning and other approvals.
