The Moses Mabhida Stadium, located in Durban, South Africa is a multi-use stadium, used for hosting sports events such as cricket, football, golf practice, motorsports, bungee jumping, concerts, rugby union, etc. The construction work to build the arena commenced in 2006 and took three years to complete. It finally opened its gate to the spectators on 28th November 2009. An estimated amount of R 3.4 billion (US$ 450 million) was spent on building this magnificent arena designed by chief architects Gerkan, Marg and Partners Theunissen Jankowitz Durban, Ambro-Afrique Consultants, Osmond Lange Architects & Planners, NSM Designs and Mthulisi Msimang. The Moses Mabhida Stadium has been the home of the South Africa national cricket team and the AmaZulu F.C. The stadium is owned by the eThekwini (Durban Metropolitan UniCity). The crowd capacity is 55,500 (which can be expanded up to 80,000). The stadium has 120 corporate hospitality suites with 7,500 seats as well.
Moses Mabhida Stadium was built as a venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, It has a regular capacity of approximately 55,500 spectators, while its configuration can be expanded for major events. The stadium has hosted one T20I, a 2011 match between South Africa and India that India won by 21 runs.
