The EMS Corporation Stadium is a multi-use stage, located in the football frenzy city of Kozhikode, South India. Opened in 1977, the stadium has been the venue of countless historical gaming events. This 50,000 capacity stadium serves as the home ground for I-league’s Viva Kerala FC, the Kerala cricket team and also the Indian National Football team. Prestigious football tournaments of Santhosh Trophy matches, Scissors Cup and Super Cup finals have been hosted here. Significant athletic events including the National Games and Women Asia Cup events have also enriched its history. The floodlights facility has made it a suitable venue for other cultural activities and music concerts. In 2005, it underwent a major renovation, rendering it an international standard with complacent facilities.

Trivia

The stadium was named after E. M. S. Namboodiripad to honor the first Chief Minister of Kerala, responsible for Kerala’s major land and educational reforms.
Various media and sports experts have declared it as the best football pitch in India.

Significance

It also played host to 1987 Nehru Cup which is an international association football tournament, organized by All India Football Federation (AIFF).
After refurbishment, the stadium reopened in February 2005 with home matches of State Bank of Travancore Football Club.
In 1980, the stadium hosted the AFC Women Asia Cup in which India won silver.
In the opening day of a three-day friendly cricket match between West Indies and Mumbai, held here in 1994, the visiting team was dismissed for 176 by Mumbai.
In 2015, significant football matches of the 35th National Games of India were played here.
