Located in the district of Ashley Down, the Bristol County Ground is one of the most significant cricket venues in Bristol, England. It is home to the Gloucestershire County Cricket Club since its establishment. The ground has been renamed many times. Initially, the ground was known as the Ashley Down Ground, but after being sold to the J. S. Fry & Sons confectionery firm, it was renamed as Fry's Ground. In 1976, it was renamed as Phoenix County Ground. Currently, it is known as the Brightside Ground for sponsorship reasons. On comparing to other county cricket club grounds, this ground has longer boundaries. It hosts the one-day international match at least once in a year.

Trivia

The former concrete roof of the public terraces of the ground was built from eight hyperbolic-paraboloid umbrellas of approximately 30 ft. square which was designed by T.H.B. Burrough in 1960.

Significance

The ground has been selected to host matches of the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
It has also been selected to host matches between England and India in 2018 and England and Pakistan in 2019.
Permanent flood lights were installed at the ground in 2016.
The ground has witnessed many one-day international centuries scored by legendary players such as Rahul Dravid (104* on 23rd May 1999), Ricky Ponting (102 on 10th June 2001), Andrew Flintoff (106 on 4th July 2004), and Moeen Ali (102 on 24th September 2017).
