Allianz Stadium is a modern, multi-purpose sporting and entertainment venue located in Moore Park, Sydney, Australia. It continues the legacy of the former Sydney Football Stadium, which opened in 1988 and closed in 2018 to make way for redevelopment. The new stadium opened in August 2022 and has a seating capacity of approximately 42,500 spectators.
The venue hosts a wide range of events, including rugby league, rugby union, soccer and live music performances. Its principal sporting tenants include the Sydney Roosters, NSW Waratahs and Sydney FC. Located beside the Sydney Cricket Ground, Allianz Stadium forms part of one of Sydney's major sporting precincts.
The site has a sporting history dating back to 1903, when the Sydney Sports Ground opened. The original Sydney Football Stadium later became a prominent venue for rugby league grand finals, international rugby fixtures and football matches. It also hosted major entertainment performances, including concerts by U2 and Taylor Swift. Following the redevelopment, the new Allianz Stadium continues the site's sporting and entertainment tradition with modern spectator facilities and an updated stadium design.
