PNC Arena is an indoor arena (predominantly used for basketball events), situated in Raleigh, North Carolina, having a seating capacity for 19,722 spectators. The arena has 13 lodge boxes, 59 suites, and a restaurant. The construction work to build this beautiful arena began on 22nd July 1997. An estimated amount of $158 million was spent on the construction. The chief architecture firm that designed the structure of the arena is Odell Associates Inc. along with Geiger Engineers under the supervision of Project Manager McDevitt Street Bovis, Inc. It took two years to construct the arena which was finally opened to the spectators on 29th October 1999. It underwent multiple renovations in between 2003-2009. The Centennial Authority owns the arena and is operated by Gale Force Sports & Entertainment. It has been the home for the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL) and the NC State Wolfpack (ACC) since the opening year.

Trivia

The arena was known as the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena (or ESA) from 1999 to 2002. The naming rights of the arena were then sold to RBC Bank (the US division of the Royal Bank of Canada) for a 20-year contract, worth $80 million. It was called RBC Center from 2002 to 2012.

Significance

The WWF Summerslam 2000 was held at the arena. It was a Triple Threat match in which prominent professional wrestlers The Rock, Triple H, and Kurt Angle were involved.
Australian rock band AC/DC performed at the arena on 1st April 2001 as a part of their "Stiff Upper Lip World Tour".
From the year 1999 to 2008, PNC Arena played host to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) men's basketball tournament.
The arena hosted the MEAC Men's Basketball Tournament in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The 58th National Hockey League All-Star game was played here in 2011.
American Rock band Bon Jovi performed here as a part of the "Because We Can Tour" on 6th November 2013.
PNC Arena has hosted Round 1 and Round 2 of NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament in 2004, 2008, and 2014.
