The facility was known as the Atos Markham Pan Am and Parapan American Centre during the Pan Am and Parapan American Games.
Markham Pan Am Centre is a multi-purpose aquatics and community center, located in the downtown area of Markham in Ontario, Canada. It was mainly built to host table tennis, badminton and water polo events for the Pan American Games of 2015. The construction began on 9th October 2012, and the stadium was finally opened on 23rd November 2014.The venue also has an Olympic-size swimming pool which was built according to the standards of the International Swimming Federation. It was the first venue amongst all that have been built to host the Pan American Games of 2015.
Significance
- There are rooms inside the building for yoga, dance, and a two-level fitness center.
- The massive multipurpose venue boasts of three gymnasiums, used for training, competitions and for community uses.
- Table tennis competitions of both the 2015 Pan American Games as well as the 2015 Parapan American Games were conducted here.
- The FINA World Championships qualifying event was also held here in 2015. The venue hosted the Ontario Provincial Masters Swimming Championships from 1st to 3rd April.
- The venue has 6 volleyball courts, 12 badminton courts and 2 basketball courts.
- In 2016, ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) held the North America Olympic Qualification Tournament here.
- This building has a ceiling which is 12.5 meters high, fulfilling the requirements of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the International Volleyball Federation for height in badminton and volleyball.
