Also known as the Hull City Stadium, KCOM Stadium is a multi-purpose sports facility, located in the city of Kingston upon Hull, England. It is operated by the SMC (Stadium Management Company) and owned by the city council of the Kingston upon Hull. KCOM Stadium is the home ground of two teams- football team Hull City A.F.C and the rugby team Hull F.C. The stadium has been designed by an architectural and interior design firm "The Miller Partnership". It was opened to spectators on 18th December 2002 after a year of construction. The playing surface is sufficed with below-surface heating and an automated watering system.
Significance
- The inaugural game at the stadium was a friendly match between the home team Hull City and Sunderland A.F.C.
- The first competitive match of the Hull City in the stadium had been held during the second half of the English football season 2002-03 which was played against Hartlepool United.
- The stadium hosted significant matches of English Premier League during the 2008–09 and 2009–10 seasons.
- The 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification Group 6 was contested in the stadium where England played Germany infront of 21,746 spectators. The match resulted in a draw of 2-2.
- It has hosted the Rugby League Tri-Nations in 2004 and 2005.
- It has also hosted two exhibition cricket matches (Twenty20 format) between the Lashings World XI and Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
- The stadium also hosts various concerts of artists such as Bryan Adams, Neil Diamond, Sir Elton John, and Bon Jovi.
- The Rugby League World Cup match where England contested against Fiji, was played here on 9th November 2013.
