Jeunesse Arena is highly reckoned amongst the multi-purpose arenas all around the world because of its impressive facilities, and for hosting significant concerts of famous celebrities such as Beyoncé, Muse, Bob Dylan and Marron 5 within three years of operation.
The Jeunesse Arena (formerly known as Arena Olímpica do Rio and HSBC Arena) is an indoor multi-purpose arena, located in the region of Barra da Tijuca, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The arena was completed in the year 2007 after two years of construction with an expenditure cost of R$ 125.971.202,92. In 2017, it was renamed to Jeunesse Arena after the American cosmetics company Jeunesse Global through a naming rights deal. It holds a capacity of 14,981 people for sports and up to 18,768 for concerts. Brazilian professional team Flamengo Basketball has been the tenant of the arena since 2009.
Significance
- The arena hosted the basketball and gymnastics events of the 2007 Pan American Games.
- Famous British rock band Queen and English singer Paul Rodgers hosted their "Rock the Cosmos Tour" at the arena on 29th November 2008.
- It also hosted UFC's (Ultimate Fighting Championship) second event in Brazil-UFC 134, which took place on 27th August 2011. Other UFC events have also been held in the arena in between 2012 and 2015.
- In the year 2013, the arena hosted an NBA (National Basketball Association) game between the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls.
- The HSBC Arena is the venue where Miley Cyrus first performed as her first performance in Brazil on May 2013.
- The arena hosted a preseason National Basketball Association (NBA) game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat on 11th October 2014.
- It was the venue of the Wheelchair Basketball Tournament of the 2016 Summer Paralympics.
- In 2017, the event League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational has been hosted by the arena.
- The arena has hosted all the gymnastic events of the 2016 Summer Olympics. It was the first time that all these events were held at the same venue.
