Trivia
-
Along with ten gates, the stadium is designed to emulate a traditional Kuwaiti Boom (ship), from lateral view. From the top, the design resembles a horse saddle. Thus the architecture tries to combine the features of both the desert and the marine environment.
Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, located in Kuwait City, is a multi-purpose stadium that predominantly hosts athletic and football events. The construction of this venue was completed in 2009 and has been officially opened on 10th September 2010. There are four levels within the building with fifty-four corporate boxes and a huge parking space that may hold up to 6,000 cars. The venue is named after late Amir of Kuwait Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah. It underwent a significant renovation in 2011 and reopened in 2015 to host the Kuwait Champions Challenge where Kuwait XI defeated World Stars XI by 4–2.
Significance
- An important aspect from the structural point of view is that the venue consists of 52 “razors” of various heights. These unique and dynamically-formed pillars have the strength to support both the spectator stands and the stadium’s vast canopy.
- The first match held in this venue was an International friendly football match between the home team Kuwait National team and the Bahrain National team in which Bahrain won 3-1.
- The first official match held in the venue was the final match of the 2010 AFC Cup between Al-Ittihad SC and Qadsia SC.
- The Super Cup 2016 was hosted in this venue on 23rd September 2016 in which Kuwait SC won after defeating Qadsia SC by 3-2 on penalties.
- The Kuwait Emir Cup Final was hosted in this stadium on 5th April 2016, which resulted in a win by Kuwait SC.
