FirstEnergy Stadium is a multi-purpose entertainment arena, situated in Cleveland, United States. It is predominantly known for hosting American football matches. The stadium was opened in the year 1999 with a name “Cleveland Browns Stadium”. It is owned by the City of Cleveland and operated by a professional American football team "Cleveland Browns". The inaugural match was played between the tenants, Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings on 21st August 1999. This recreational arena was designed and developed by HOK Sport, Ralph Tyler Companies, and Robert P. Madison International.
Significance
- The match of Wisconsin Badgers and Bowling Green Falcons in the year 2006 is considered as one of the memorable matches hosted by the stadium.
- FirstEnergy Stadium hosts the Women’s National national team (USWNT) and United States Men's national team (USMNT) every year periodically.
- It also witnessed the run-up match of FIFA World Cup 2006 between Venezuela and Unites States Men's soccer team (USMNT).
- It has been selected as one of the venues to host the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2017.
- The FirstEnergy Stadium also hosted Ohio Classic (a college Football game) in the year 2004 and 2005.
- The first ever annual regular season college football game (Patriot Bowl) held at the stadium was played between Akron Zips and Army Black Knights in 2009.
