The Arena won the Facilities Magazine’s Prime Site Award in 2008. This award is based on the inference of the representatives of the site selection industry, booking agents, promoters, talent buyers, special event planners, etc. who give a judgment based on the facilities, quality, and staging.
The BOK Center or the Bank of Oklahoma Center is a multi-purpose arena and a primary indoor sports venue at Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. The vcenter has been designed to host events such as arena football, hockey basketball, and concerts. It was opened on August 30, 2008. The architect of the construction is Cesar Pelli. The venue is managed and operated by SMG. The arena is named for the Bank of Oklahoma (as the bank owned the naming rights). The arena formerly served as the home for Tulsa Shock of the Women’s National Basketball Association and also the Tulsa Talons of the Arena Football League. The arena will also host NBA preseason games and college basketball matches to boost its popularity.
Significance
- The first major event was the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder, played against the Houston Rockets in their preseason game in October 2008.
- Professional bull riders (bull riding organization) hosted the Built Ford Tough Series event at the BOK Center in 2009.
- The BOK Centre is home to one of the minor league teams, the Tulsa Oilers ice hockey team that play in the ECHL.
- BOK Center has hosted several major concerts starring big names such as Lady Gaga, Kenny Chesney, AC/DC, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Jonas Brothers, etc.
- The arena has also hosted Katy Perry's California Dreams Tour on September 17, 2011, and Taylor Swift's "Speak Now World Tour" on September 21, 2011.
- In March 2010, the Center served as a venue for the "Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament".
- It has hosted the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Men's Division I Basketball Championship in March 2011.
- Between 2010- 2015, the Tulsa Shocks team of the Women's National Basketball Association played their games at the BOK Center.
