The indoor hall of the stadium has been named in honor of Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
The Barabati Stadium, located in Cuttack, Odisha is one of the well-known cricket stadiums in India that host national level football matches. The stadium was inaugurated in 1958 and currently holds a seating capacity of 45,000. This stadium has served as a regular venue for national and international cricket matches. It is owned and managed by Odisha Cricket Association and is the home ground of Odisha Cricket Team since 1958.
Significance
- Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar scored his highest ever Test scores (166) here against Sri Lanka.
- Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev took his 300th Test wicket by bowling against Sri Lanka's Rumesh Ratnayake.
- In January 1982, the stadium witnessed India's first ever One-day international series on their soil. India defeated England in the third match of the series by 2-1.
- The stadium has hosted two international Test matches: one against Sri Lanka and the other against New Zealand.
- The stadium has been equipped with flood lights for hosting Day-Night cricket matches and football games.
- It has hosted 20 One day International cricket matches, including the Cricket World Cup matches held in India in 1987 and 1996.
- The Barabati stadium has also played host to the 2013 Women's Cricket World Cup tournament.
