Sportsperson of the Year is an annual award presented by the Sports Journalists' Club of Czech Republic to the best sportspersons and best sports teams of the year. The award was first introduced in 1993 after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The Sports Legend award was first given in 2000 and has been known as the “Emil Zátopek Award” since 2001, after it was awarded to the Czechoslovak long-distance runner Emil Zátopek in 2000. Since 2002, Junior Sportsperson of the Year award has also been bestowed.
