Named in honor of Otto Lilienthal, a German pioneer of human aviation, Lilienthal Gliding Medal is the highest gliding award in the world. The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) constituted this medal in the year 1938 to reward astonishing performance in gliding.
