To acknowledge the achievements of Australian sportspersons, the Sport Australia Hall of Fame was instituted on December 10, 1985. Every year, the Hall of Fame enlists prominent retired athletes, associate members and upgrades one sportsperson to "legend" status.
The Sport Australia Hall of Fame is housed by the National Sports Museum situated at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The Sport Australia Hall of Fame constituted The 'Don' Award, titled after Sir Donald Bradman, is an accolade presented to the current Australian athlete or team who have inspired the nation by their achievements and phenomenal performance over the last 12 months.
The award was instituted in 2002 to acknowledge the dedication of sportsmen and sportswomen of the country who have time and again taken Australia to national & international heights through their capabilities to execute successful team results.
Introduced in 2002, the Spirit of Sport Award is bestowed to the sportsperson of Australia who by his/her sporting achievements & performances has captured the heart of the nation. This award is not given annually but granted at the discretion of the Board for a performance which is exceptional and capable of being the part of Australian sporting history.
