The United World Wrestling, which is often abbreviated as the UWW, is the world governing body of amateur wrestling. Its responsibilities include managing the Olympic events of amateur wrestling as well as setting its rules and regulations.
It was formerly known as the Fédération Internationale des Luttes Associées (FILA) before adopting its current name in the year 2014.
The first federation for the development of wrestling was founded in 1905 by Verband (DAV), a Deutsche Athleten in Duisburg. Later on, a five-member committee was created.
The first international wrestlers' Union was founded in 1912.
The International Amateur Wrestling Federation (IAWF) was created in 1921, assuming the responsibility to promote tow wrestling styles and modify the rules.
