The international tennis federation, aka the ITF, is the world governing body of all tennis, wheelchair tennis, and beach tennis sporting events.
It was founded in 1913 by twelve different national associations under the name of international lawn tennis federation. Duane Williams, the driving force behind the foundation of this association, died with the sinking of RMS Titanic.
The ITF partner cooperates with the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) to maintain and enforce the rules of tennis and regulate international team competitions. It also holds the responsibility for promoting the game and launching anti-doping and anti-corruption programs to preserve the sport's dignity.
The ITF holds the Davis Cup for men, Fed Cup for men, Hopman Cup for mixed teams as well as Paralympic tennis events in collaboration with the IOC (International Olympic Committee).
