The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne, named as the 'International Modern Pentathlon Union' in English, is often abbreviated as the UIPM. It is the world governing body of the sport of modern pentathlon. UIPM also oversees several multi-disciplinary games like Laser Run, Tetrathlon, Biathle, Triathle and World Schools Biathlon, which are regarded as development sports aimed at increasing participation in UIPM sports and offering athletes a way to enter the sport of modern pentathlon. The UIPM is officially recognised by several world governing bodies of sports like the International Olympic Committee (the IOC), the Global Organisation of International Sport Federations (GAISF) and the Federation of International University Sport (FISU), and the International Paralympic Committee (since it also operates a para-sports programme).
