The International Federation of American Football is the global governing body to promote, manage and governs over every aspect of the sport. The federation aims to develop the sport and strengthen its growth for people of all levels and statures. It supports all the affiliated national federations of the sport. The federation is registered in France as a non-profit organisation. It has five continental alliances that oversee all the regulations and management of the respective sports events at the continental level.
The first national federation of American Football outside the United States was established in 1896. Post that, Japan adopted the sport and established the national American Football Federation in 1936. Whereas, the first American Football Federation in Europe was established in 1876. To conduct the sport on a global level with a unified format of regulations; the international American Football Federation was founded in 1998.
