The international basketball federation (FIBA) is the highest governing body of the sport of basketball. It was originally known as Fédération internationale de basket-ball amateur, but was later renamed to Fédération internationale de basket-ball, which is its current name. A total of eight nations were its founding members. Namely - Argentina, Greece, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Latvia, Portugal, Switzerland and Romania. Now, it’s made up of five zones (namely Asia, Americas, Africa, Europe, and Oceania) with a total of 213 nations as its members.
Its responsibilities include forming the rules and regulations of this sport as well as organizing its world championships.
