Amritpal Kaur is a budding karate champion of India, everyone needs to look out for. Born in a lower-middle-class Sikh family, she struggled in her way to set foot in Delhi. Initially, Kaur learned martial arts as a form of self-defence during her graduation from Janki Devi Memorial College. She knew the world sometimes get cruel for girls and some guys are always there to eve-tease or misbehave. Kaur as a brave child inclined towards karate so that she could be able to answer them. When she realized that karate isn’t just a self-defence act but a regular sport, she decided to shift her interest from badminton to karate. And soon enough, she made it to the national team and started winning state, national and international tournaments.

Amritpal, now a black belt in Sito Tyo Seiko Kai (a major style in karate), has won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Karate Championships in 2015 and bagged the top slot in the South Asian Championships for three years consecutively. However, she couldn’t make it to the Tokyo Olympics which is now rescheduled for 2021, Kaur will shine and make the country proud.
