The athletes with physical impairments participate in this sport. Hence, they are classified into the following categories based upon the level of disability so that each of them can compete with an opponent on an equal footing.
The classification is done in the following three categories:-
The athletes belonging to this category have an impairment in their lower and/or upper limb in the non-shooting arm. The athletes of SH1 Pistol are able to support the complete weight of pistol, and compete either in the standing or sitting position.
The athletes of this class have an impairment in the lower part of the body. This category athlete is able to support the complete weight of the rifle, and thus compete in any of the two positions i.e. standing or sitting.
The athletes have an impairment in the upper limbs in this class that prevents them to support the full weight of the rifle. Hence, they use a spring-mounted stand which aids them in supporting the rifle’s weight. Depending upon their level of impairment they may need an assistant to load the rifle.
