Athletes may make three lifts and after each successful lift, the weight must be increased by at least one kg.
In para-powerlifting competitions, the athletes with eight different physical impairments are eligible to participate: impaired passive range of movement, impaired muscle power, leg length difference, limb deficiency, hypertonia, short stature, ataxia and athetosis with some physical disabilities including spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, poliomyelitis and lower limb amputation. All athletes who meet the current minimal eligibility criteria compete in one sport class, in different weight categories.
An athlete can attempt the fourth lift upon the discretion of the jury to achieve a new record but the attempt will not be counted towards the competitions’ final result.
