The match start with the two para-judokas in a loose grip on each other’s Judo suits. If the contact is broken, wait (matte) or stop is called and the judokas return to the center and regrip.
Visually impaired athletes are classified into three classes based on the type of disability and the blind classification of the athletes is based on medical classification and not on functional classification. The classes are B1, B2 and B3 but in para-judo, athletes of all classes compete together in one class in their own weight category. Blind athletes with hearing loss are also eligible for the competitions.
