Rules governing camel races vary from nation to nation. For example, in the UAE, a total of 25-30 participants participate in organised races.
All trainers and camel owners gather before a race to decide in which category their camel is going to participate in. This includes distance and classes and is based on gender, age, and sex. The length of the race course also depends on individual camel. I.e., Younger ones run 4 KM while the older ones run up to 10 KM. However, an average adult racing camel can reach the speed of up to 32-40 KMPH.
Most camels begin racing at the age of two or three and retire at eight or nine.
