The matches of beach tennis are played on the sand, between two teams where they are pitted on opposite sides.
The playing arena for single beach tennis matches is 4.5 meters (14.91 feet) wide with a length of 16 meters (52.50 feet). For the doubles event, the arena has a width of 8 meters (26.24 feet).
The playing area is divided equally into two areas with a net in the middle. The area is covered with small meshes at the boundary so that the tennis ball may not go out.
The height of the net is 1.70 meters, i.e. 67 inches high.
The tennis ball used in the match is depressurised to 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) with a total mass of around 38 to 40 grams.
The rackets used in the match should have a maximum length of 73.7 cm (30 inches), and width of 31.7 cm (12.5 inches). The strings pattern follows the same as of tennis rackets.
The match begins with a toss between the two players to decide who should serve first along with the power to choose the side.
The player serves the ball from behind the baseline and has the opportunity to serve for every single point.
If the ball touches the net during the service, then the game isn't considered as a let. The receivers can return the ball from any point on their side.
The receivers should be in a waiting position while the other player is serving, and they are entirely prohibited from moving towards the net to block the service until the ball is in the air.
The players are required to change their respective court sides after the end of every odd game of the matches.
If the ball touches the player's side, the other player automatically wins a point. At the same time if any player hits the ball out of the bound playing field, then he/she loses a point.
If any player knowingly or intentionally distracts or disturbs the other player while serving or receiving, then he/she loses one point.
During a match, it is completely prohibited to return while invading the opposing player's court.
The game score includes 0, 15, 30 and 40. The winner is the team that scores 7 or 9 games with a difference of a minimum 2 games. If a tie happens, then it can be broken by playing 6 or 8 games all.
A service fault is committed by any player, leads to a penalty score. It occurs if the ball is hit to the permanent furnishing or at the ceiling.
