Nissan Stadium is a sports venue, located in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It is commonly known as the 'International Stadium Yokohama'. Opened on 1st March 1998, the stadium is owned by Yokohama City and operated by Yokohama Sports Association and Yokohama F. Marinos. An estimated amount of ¥60.3 billion was spent on the construction of the stadium. The International Stadium Yokohama has been the home of the Japanese football team Yokohama F. Marinos. This grass field stadium can hold around 72,327 spectators, which was considered as the highest seating capacity amongst all the stadia of Japan for 21 years, until the opening of the New National Stadium in Tokyo in November 2019.

Trivia

The stadium was called Nissan Stadium till 28th August 2009. Nissan Motors announced on 28th August 2009 that the naming rights would not be renewed. The naming rights expired on 28th February 2010.
Nissan Stadium is one of the scheduled football venues for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Significance

The stadium has witnessed the significant matches of the Intercontinental Cup in the year 2002 (Real Madrid vs. Olimpia), 2003 (Boca Juniors vs. Milan) and 2004 (F.C. Porto vs. Once Caldas).
The stage has played host to the FIFA Club World Cup matches in the year 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2015.
The International Stadium Yokohama has been selected as one of the venues to host the matches of 2019 Rugby World Cup. It will also host the final match of the tournament. The decision was taken by the World Rugby after the announcement that the construction of the "National Stadium" wouldn’t be completed in time.
It also hosted the final match of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
The semi-final and final matches of the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup were held at the International Stadium Yokohama on 7th and 10th June 2001, respectively.
The stadium witnessed the third place play-off match, the semi-final and the final match of the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship.
The stadium has also witnessed phenomenal performances of Famous rock bands such as Aerosmith, The Who, SMAP, and GLAY.
The stadium was also selected as one of the venues for the 2019 Rugby World Cup and hosted the final of the tournament.<br />
