Located in the 'Sunshine City' of Harare in Zimbabwe, the National Sports Stadium is a multi-purpose venue. It is one of the biggest stadia of Zimbabwe, mostly used for Footballand Rugby matches. The stadium was built in the year 1987, primarily financed by the Chinese Government. The total seating capacity is 60,000 and the seating plan for the stadium is distributed in bays. The stadium houses 31 bays to accommodate the spectators. The stadium occupies approximately 17 hectares , the stadium also has a separate VIP area that can accommodate 240 people. The state-of-the-art infrastructure of this stadium is widely talked about and provides ample of facilities and comforts to the spectators during an event. The stadium underwent Chinese-funded renovations beginning in 2006 and was officially handed back to Zimbabwean authorities in 2010. CAPS United F.C. has also used the stadium for home matches. The stadium has hosted major sporting events, including the 1995 All-Africa Games. The stadium underwent further renovation work during 2025–2026.
Trivia
In the year 2012, Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa conducted the Judgement Night here when the stadium witnessed the maximum attendance. The same event Judgement Night-II was organized here by Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa in 2014 when the stadium was filled to the maximum capacity again.
Significance
On 2nd June 2010, a friendly football match was played here between Zimbabwe and Brazil. Brazil won the match with 3-0.
In the year 1995, the stadium hosted the 6th All-Africa Games.
The oath of ceremony of the Zimbabwean President was held here in August 2013 after the July harmonise elections.
