MetLife Stadium is a multi-purpose sports venue situated within the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Opened on April 10, 2010, it replaced the former Giants Stadium which had been approaching 30 years of service. The stadium serves as the home venue for both the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL. The stadium was constructed at a reported cost of approximately $1.6 billion, making it the most expensive stadium in the United States at the time of its completion. The privately financed project was jointly developed for the Giants and Jets. Its design and development involved 360 Architecture, EwingCole, Rockwell Group, and Bruce Mau Design, with the firms contributing to the stadium's architecture, interiors, and overall fan experience.
With a capacity of 82,500 spectators, MetLife Stadium is the largest stadium in New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area by seating capacity. It is also the largest stadium by capacity in the NFL.
The stadium has hosted several major international sporting events, including Super Bowl XLVIII in February 2014. In 2025, it staged five matches at the FIFA Club World Cup, including the final. The following year, the venue hosted eight matches at the FIFA World Cup, culminating in the tournament final on July 19, 2026. During the 2026 World Cup, FIFA referred to the venue as “New York New Jersey Stadium” in accordance with its naming guidelines.
