Villa Park is a football ground, situated in Aston, England and is the home ground of Aston Villa Football Club since 1897. It has hosted almost sixteen senior levels’ international football matches from 1899 to 2005. The ground was opened in the year 1897 and managed by Aston Villa. After various rounds of renovations and modulations, the stadium is standing in its present day configuration, comprising of four stands. These are the Holte End, Trinity Road Stand, North Stand and the Doug Ellis Stand. It is having a spectator capacity of around 42,682 seats, and its surface comprises of Desso Grassmaster. The stadium has been the host of various other sports as well such as boxing, international rugby league and rugby union matches.

Earlier, it was a cycling track and was also used to host athletic events before 1914.

Significance

It hosted the final match of the UEFA Winners’ Cup that was held in the year 1999.
The stadium has recorded the highest attendance of 76,588 on 2nd March 1946 during an Aston Villa’s match 6th round which was a tie match against Derby County in FA Cup.
The 2012 FA Community Shield was also held here due to unavailability of Wembley stadium for Olympic football tournament.
Three World Cup matches during 1966 and four matches of Euro 1996 were held here.
The ground has also hosted many concerts and musical events where performers such as Tunnel of Love, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Rod Stewart, Robert Palmer, and Belinda Carlisle had given spectacular performances.
