Located in Kallang (a residential town in the central region) of Singapore, this indoor stadium is the centre of attraction and part of Singapore Sports Hub, at an arm's length from the Singapore National Stadium. The stadium has been the centre of attraction since it's inception in 1989. The construction work to build this stadium began in 1985 and took two years to complete, the inauguration ceremony being held on 31st December 1989. The shape of the roof of the stadium is conic, and the arena is pillarless.
Trivia
The stadium has a flexible stage configuration due to which, the capacity can be extended or decreased.
Significance
The stadium has been the host venue for numerous international sports events including the Asian Youth Games of 2009, World Netball Championships of 2011, International Premier Tennis League in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
The Badminton and Table tennis events of the Summer Youth Olympics of 2010 have been held at the stadium.
The arena has hosted many international as well as regional rock band shows and musical concerts in 2010 including Deep Purple, Kelly Clarkson, Paramore, Muse, Superband and Green Day.
Hope Church Singapore’s Alpha Conference was also held at this arena in 2016 on 28-29 May.
