The circuit is primarily known for its sweeping corners, a very long back straight (927 m) and a tight hairpin turn which makes the ride quite tricky.
Beautifully designed by prominent German designer and racing driver Hermann Tilke, Sepang International Circuit is located in Sepang, Selangor just 45 km (28 mi) south of Kuala Lumpur and very close to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The circuit officially opened its gates in 1999 with an inauguration ceremony in the presence of Tun Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohamad, the 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia on 7th March.
The circuit hosted the Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix between 1999 and 2017.
Prominent British racing driver Lewis Hamilton took pole position with timing 1:30.076 during the Malaysian Grand Prix race held here in 2017.
Besides Formula racing, the circuit also provides facilities to conduct motocross and karting events.
