In 1982, during a match between Vasco and Operário-MS at the Brazilian Championship, strange objects were spotted in the sky by fans, players, and journalists that were cigar-shaped and had silver lights. These UFOs were seen for 5 seconds. This incident made it the only stadium having the largest collective UFO sightings in Brazil.
The Pedro Pedrossian stadium, also known as Morenão is located in Campo Grande, Brazil, at the UFMS campus of the Federal University of Mato Grosso Do Sul. Opened on 7th March 1971, it is the 16th largest stadium in Brazil regarding capacity. In 2014, the stadium was supposed to be one of the venues for FIFA World Cup. However, despite investing a huge amount in the development of the stadium, it was not chosen to host the World Cup.
Significance
- The first ever game in the stadium was played between Corinthians and Flamengo where Flamengo won with scores of 3-1.
- In 2014, over $500 million were spent on the development of the stadium to meet the mandatory requirements of the FIFA World Cup.
- The first ever goal at the stadium was scored by Buião from Flamingo team during the inaugural match in 1971.
- This stadium is the largest university campus in the entire Latin America.
- The nickname of this stadium “Morenão” is one of the nicknames of Campo Grande.
- The Palmerias club won the Series B Cup at the stadium on 24th November 2013.
