MGM Grand Garden Arena is the main arena to host the highest Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) matches. It has hosted a total of 35 UFC matches.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena is located on the Las Vegas Strip, Las Vegas of Nevada, USA. It is a multi-purpose arena and has a capacity to host 17,157 people. It is well known for several professional boxing fights featuring Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. The arena has also been used to host major concerts. Initially, it was known by the name MGM Grand Sports Center. The construction of the arena began on 7th October 1991 and was opened to the public on 18th December 1993. The total construction cost was $28.4 million. MGM Resorts International owns the arena.
Significance
- In between 1996-2000, the Arena hosted wrestling's WCW Halloween Havoc PPV event.
- In 1994, it hosted the UWF television event "Blackjack Brawl".
- On 7th September 1996, the MGM Grand Garden Area hosted the fight between Bruce Seldon and Mike Tyson.
- It also played host to the NHL (National Hockey League) preseason game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings on 4th October 2014.
- On 24th October 2014, the arena witnessed an NBA preseason game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings.
- Many editions of WCW Monday Nitro (a professional wrestling telecast) have been held here.
- Las Vegas Dustdevils and Las Vegas Sting are the tenants of the Arena since the year 1994.
- The Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament was held at the MGM GGA from 2013 to 2016.
