London Aquatics Centre

The London Aquatics Centre is an indoor swimming facility in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. It was completed in 2011 at the cost of £269 million. Its design is inspired by Dollan Aqua Centre of Scotland. The centre has hosted many international swimming competitions such as 2012 Summer Olympics, Paralympics, and 2016 European Aquatics Championships. The centre was designed in 2004 by Pritzker Prize winning architect Zaha Hadid and is currently maintained by Greenwich Leisure Limited. This venue has two competition pools and one warm-up pool. It has a movable pool floor to reduce the depth and movable booms to change size. Since this aquatic centre was designed before the bid of 2012 Olympics, the spectator side wings were not part of the original layout. They were later added to increase the seating capacity to 17,500. When the two temporary "wings" were removed, it reduced the capacity to a regular 2,500 seats with an option to increase it by 1,000 for major events.
