Hanns-Martin-Schleyer–Halle (more commonly referred as Schleyer-Halle) is an indoor arena, located in Stuttgart, Germany. Built in 1983, the arena can hold around 15,500 spectators. It was named after Hanns Martin Schleyer who was a German employer representative as well as Nazi officer, who had been kidnapped and then killed by the terrorist group named Red Army Faction. The arena has hosted several matches of Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on a court made of clay, known as "Court 1".
Significance
- The arena hosted the final phases of European Basketball Championship in the year 1985.
- The Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle is famous for having hosted the finals of FIBA Eurobasket in the year 1985.
- In 1989, the stadium hosted the finals of the Davis Cup.
- The stadium served as the venue of the UCI Track Cycling World Championships of the year 1991. It has also been used as a velodrome as well as the host for the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in 2003.
- In the year 2007, the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were also staged in the Hanns Martin Schleyer Halle.
- The English electronic band "Depeche Mode" has performed in the Schleyer Halle Stadium for seven times (in 1987, 1990, 1993, 1998, 2001, 2006, and 2009).
- The stadium has also hosted the Stuttgart Masters between the years 1996 and 2001.
