Officially known as Krestovsky Stadium, Gazprom Arena (for sponsorship reasons) is a famous football arena, located in the western portion of Krestovsky Island in Saint Petersburg. It was opened in 2017 to host the FIFA Confederations Cup and has been selected to host the FIFA World Cup matches of 2018. The stadium was also known as Saint Petersburg Stadium. The design of the stadium is inspired by the Toyota Stadium in Japan. It was constructed on the site of Kirov Stadium which was demolished in September 2006. The stadium has a retractable roof.
