Trivia
-
In his 1969 book "Motor Cycle Racing", Peter Carrick appreciated the circuit and also mentioned about its risk factors.
Circuit de Charade is a motorcycle race track (built in 1958), located in the Auvergne Mountains in France near Clermont-Ferrand. It is also known by the names Circuit Clermont-Ferrand and the Circuit Louis Rosier. Originally, the track was 8.055 km (5.005 miles). The track is often described as twisted version of Nurburgring race track in Germany. The circuit has 18 turns. It also hosts Track day events in which non-members are allowed to drive around the circuit. Â
Significance
- In 1964, the track hosted a non-championship race event where Denny Hulme, Jackie Stewart, and Jochen Rindt showed their racing skills. It was a warm-up race before the 1965 French Grand Prix.
- In 1966, an American film and television director John Frankenheimer filmed a small part of his movie "Grand Prix" in front of 3000 people who posed as race spectators, watching actors Yves Montand and Francoise Hardy.
- The track hosted the Formula One French Grand Prix events in 1965, 1969, 1970 and 1972.
- The circuit has also hosted the Formula 3, sports car racing and touring car racing events.
- The FFSA GT Championship also took place at this track in 1998.
- The circuit is also used for several events of rallying and hill climbing.
