The original name of the arena is Hamar Olympic Amphitheatre, commonly known as CC Amfi.
CC Amfi, also known as Nordlyshallen or 'The Northern Light Hall' is an indoor sports arena, located in Norway. The construction began in August 1991 and the arena was finally inaugurated in the year 1992 on 25th November. A subsidiary of Hamar Municipality (known as Hamar Olympiske Anlegg) owns the arena. It is mainly used for ice hockey and also hosts other sports such as figure skating, short track speed skating, and handball. The arena has been a venue for many notable events and concerts as well. The construction cost of building CC Amfi was 83 million Norwegian krone (NOK). Since 1992, a Norwegian ice hockey team Storhamar Ishockey has been using the arena as their home ground.
Significance
- Nordlyshallen has been hosting the annual television show "Idrettsgallaen" since 2011. The show honors the previous year’s Norwegian athletes.
- The Olympic Amphitheatre had been the venue for the matches of the Norway men’s national handball team. The first tournament was played on January 1993.
- The Olympic Amphitheatre has twice hosted the Norwegian Figure Skating Championship: Once in the year 2005 and the other one six years later in 2011.
- In September 2007, the arena hosted the World Championship in dog agility of Federation Cynologique Internationale.
- The 1999 IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) World Championship for men was held at Nordlyshallen.
