Barclays Center has been considered as one of the ten most important sports stadiums in the world.
Barclays Center is an indoor stadium, located in Brooklyn, New York. This multi-purpose stadium was opened to spectators on 21st September 2012. The center serves as home stadium for basketball team "Brooklyn Nets" and National Hockey League franchise "New York Islanders".
Significance
- The first NHL hockey game played at this venue was a preseason game between the Islanders and New Jersey Devils on 21st September 2013.
- The first regular season game was played on 9th October 2015 between the Islanders and the 2015 Stanley Cup champions Chicago Blackhawks.
- The first NBA basketball game played here was the preseason game between the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards on 15th October 2012.
- The NBA draft for the 2013 season was hosted here on 27th June. The NBA draft for 2016 was also by the center.
- The 2015 NBA All-star weekend festivities were hosted here on 13th and 14th February 2015.
- The internal lighting system of the arena is unique as it comprises of two types sport lighting systems.
- The Brooklyn Center has been chosen to host the NBA development league franchise Long Island Nets during the 2016-2017 season until the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum gets renovated.
- The center has also hosted the third game of the Stanley Cup playoffs on April 17, 2016. Islanders won the third game against Florida Panthers with a score of 4-3.
