The Azadi Stadium is a much-publicized all-seater football stadium, located in Tehran, Iran. From 1971 to 1979, the stadium was called the Aryamehr Stadium. The construction of the stadium started on 1st October 1970. The chief architect involved in the construction of the stadium was Abdol-Aziz Mirza Farmanfarmaian. After three years, the Azadi Stadium was finally opened for spectators, on 18th October 1973. An estimated amount of €400,163,944 was spent on its construction. The stadium underwent renovation in 2002 and took a year to get refurnished. The entire field of the Azadi Stadium has been installed with Desso GrassMaster. The stadium is owned by the Azadi Sports Complex and operated by MSYA and the Tehran Municipality. The Azadi Stadium has been the home ground for the Esteghlal F.C. and the Persepolis F.C. since 1973. It has also been the home for the Iran national football team since 1975.
