The Auto Club Speedway (formerly known as the California Speedway) is a 3 km, D-shaped oval superspeedway, located at Cherry Avenue in Fontana, California, near the former location of Ontario Motor Speedway and Riverside International Raceway. Construction of this speedway began in 1995 and was completed by late 1996.The International Speedway Corporation owns the track. It has a total capacity of 68,000 with 28 skyboxes. In 2004, lights were added to the speedway and a fan zone behind the main grandstand in 2006. The racetrack has been hosting the NASCAR racing since 1997 and witnessed the IndyCar series in between 2002 to 2005.

Trivia

The speedway was constructed on the ground of Kaiser Steel Mill. A water tower of 100 foot was a landmark of their property, preserved to be used as a scoreboard in the middle of the race track.

Significance

The speedway hosted the first NASCAR West Series race on 21st June 1997. It took place on the speedway till 2006.
The MAVTV 500, an Indycar Series has been conducted at the Auto Club Speedway between 2002 to 2005 and 2012 to 2015.
The CART Series were held here in between 1997 to 2002.
The Pepsi max 400 of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series were held on the ground in between 2004 to 2010.
Also, the Auto Club 400 of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is being hosted by the Auto Club Speedway since 2010.
The track has also been used for many films and television shows. Some parts of “Charlie’s Angels” were filmed at the race track in the year 2000 and of “Herbie: Fully Loaded” in 2005.
