Long Jump is a track and field athletics event in which athletes sprint along a runway and jump as far as possible from a wooden take-off board into a sandpit. This is a sport in which the combination of speed, strength and agility of an athlete is measured. The sport has its roots in the Ancient Greece’s Olympics in which athletes carried weights in both hands which were swung forward as the athlete jumped and release it in the middle of the jump to increase momentum. Long jump has been part of the modern Olympics since the inception of the Games in 1896.
