The tournament held in 2014 was won by the Warwickshire County Cricket Club that participated in the tournament with a name Birmingham Bears. It was the first time that the trophy was won by a team that used its city's name in its title.

The NatWest T20 Blast is a Twenty20 format game for cricket league in England and Wales, conducted by the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) since 2014. It has replaced the "Friends Life T20" competition as the main domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in England and Wales. NatWest (National Westminster Bank Plc.) became the tournament sponsors in the year 2014, renewing the long-lasting relationship which it had with the county game.

Competition Format

At present, eighteen clubs compete for the T20 title. The clubs associated with the competition are Derbyshire, Durham, Essex, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Middlesex, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Somerset, Surrey, Sussex, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and Yorkshire.
These clubs are initially divided into two divisions (North and South), each containing nine teams.
The nine teams formed, proceed to the group stage of the tournament. During the group stage, each club plays against six of the other clubs in the same division twice, once at their home stadium and once at the home of their opponents. They play the other two teams once. Hence, each team plays a total of 14 games.
Two points are granted for a win and one point is awarded for a draw or if the match is discarded.
The teams receive no points for a loss.
Teams are first ranked by total points and then by the net run rate.
After the group stages, the top four teams from each group qualify for the knockout stage.
The semi-finals and final of the contest are played successively on the same day.
