The trophy of the Curtis Cup (which is a silver bowl) was donated by the Curtis sisters (who have won the U.S. Amateur Championships).

The Curtis Cup is a women’s international golf tournament, held in every two years. The Curtis Cup was first played in the year 1932. It was held at the Wentworth Club, Wentworth, England and was won by the American team. The competition is organised by the United States Golf Association and the R&A and has two teams: one team that represents the United States and the other representing Great Britain and Ireland. The competition consists of different kinds of match plays. According to the rules, if the match is tied, the previous winner of the Cup retains it. The winner of each category wins a point for their team.

Competition Format

The Curtis Cup involves various match play fixtures and is held between two of the representatives or players, selected from the two teams of 8 players, singles, foursomes or fourballs. The winner of each match is granted a point.
The ½ point is awarded when the match is tied after playing 18 holes.
If the entire game ends in a tie, the previous winner retains the title or cup.
The initial format of the Curtis Cup was supposed to have three foursome matches, and six singles match with a total of 9 points to be awarded. They were played over two days.
In 1964, the format of the Curtis Cup was changed to three foursome and six singles matches in each day with a total of 18 points.
In 2008, the format was changed again, and the game became a three-day long competition. The first two days hosted three foursomes and three fourball matches and the final day hosted eight single matches for a total of 20 points.
